What does aesthetic mean in fashion?
An aesthetic is a recognisable look with its own mood, colors and signature pieces. Dark academia means tweed and old libraries. Cottagecore means florals and fresh bread.
Your aesthetic is the one you keep coming back to: in your saved photos, your favorite clothes and even your bedroom.
How this aesthetic quiz works
Each answer gives two points to the aesthetic it fits best. Many also give one point to a close neighbour, such as old money and dark academia. The aesthetic with the most points is your result, and if two tie, the quiz picks the one earlier in its fixed list.
We ran 200,000 random answer sets through it to check that all 10 aesthetics can win and none wins far more often than the rest. Your answers stay in your browser and are never saved.
The 10 aesthetics at a glance
Here is a short description of each result. If two of them sound like you, that is normal: most people blend a main aesthetic with a second one.
Clean Girl
Your look is fresh, groomed and simple: glowing skin, slicked-back hair and a few good basics in soft neutrals. You want to look rested and put together, never fussy.
Old Money
You like clothes that look inherited rather than bought last week: tailored, natural fibers in navy, camel and cream. Quality and fit matter more to you than trends or logos.
Dark Academia
You are drawn to old libraries, candlelight and well-worn tweed. Your wardrobe runs on deep browns, olive and burgundy, with layered knits, blazers and sturdy leather shoes.
Cottagecore
You dream of a slower life with a garden, a bread oven and a basket of wildflowers. Floral dresses, puff sleeves, linen and soft muted colors make up your wardrobe.
Coquette
You love bows, lace, pearls and every shade of pink. Your style is soft, flirty and a little vintage, with ballet flats, frilly blouses and ribbons tied into your hair.
Y2K
You are pulled toward the playful fashion of the late 1990s and early 2000s: baby tees, low-rise jeans, shiny gloss and sparkly mini bags. Your style is fun, bold and a bit nostalgic.
Minimalist
You want a wardrobe with fewer, better pieces in clean shapes and a calm palette. Black, white, grey and stone are your base, and every item earns its place.
Boho
Your style is free-spirited and earthy: flowing maxi skirts, suede, fringe, crochet and stacks of jewelry. You like clothes with a story, from vintage finds to handmade pieces.
Streetwear
Your style is relaxed, graphic and sneaker-led: hoodies, oversized tees, cargos and caps. You care about proportions, limited drops and how an outfit looks from head to toe.
Grunge
You like clothes that look lived-in and a little rebellious: flannel shirts, ripped jeans, band tees and combat boots. Dark, faded colors and smudged eyeliner suit your mood.
What to do with your result
Start with what you already own. Pull out the pieces that match your result and build three outfits from them before you buy anything.
Then pick one key piece from your result page to add, like a tweed blazer for dark academia or chunky sneakers for streetwear. One good piece changes more outfits than five trend buys.
If the result feels wrong, retake the quiz and answer for the life you live now, not the one on your mood board.
Frequently asked questions
You are probably a blend, which is how most people dress. Use your top result as the base and borrow details from the second. A minimalist base with clean girl beauty, or boho layers with grunge boots, can feel more personal than either aesthetic on its own.
It is a starting point, not a verdict. The quiz can only reflect the answers you give, and taste shifts with mood, budget and climate. If your result feels close but not quite right, read the overview above and pick the description that makes you want to get dressed.
Yes, and it often does. A new job, city or stage of life can pull you toward different colors and shapes. Retake the quiz once or twice a year. Pieces you love from an old aesthetic can usually stay, mixed in with the new one.
No. Most aesthetics are built on basics you may already own, styled in a new way. Swap accessories, shoes or the way you tuck and layer first. Secondhand shops are full of key pieces for dark academia, grunge, boho and old money looks.
An aesthetic is a shared look with a name and a set of signature pieces. Your personal style is how you wear things, whatever the label. Our style quiz looks at that side: the mood you want your clothes to give, from classic to creative.
